endanger life and property.

In France

) in the field of housing alone,
there are approximately 80 deaths directly caused by faulty electrical
installations and close to 4,000 injuries due to electrocution.
Besides, 25 % of the 250 000 domestic fires (one every 2 minutes) cause 100 000 victims, 460 of wich per years, would have an electrical origin (Commission de la Sécurité des Consommateurs).

60 % of residential buildings
are over 25 years old
; the majority of them have never been inspected, or tested or updated ; 120 000 millions of the electrical installations are more than 25 years old, and cannot be considered as safe (AIE, October 2006) ;

16 000 injuries and
540 deaths are caused each year by accidents due to electricity.
According to a survey by GMC Europe based on 10 000 dwellings
: 70 % of lodgings in Spain are dangerous ; half of these are
" very dangerous "; and in 85 % of dwellings in Russia
are rated as " very dangerous ".

"the absence of regulations for applying standards and inspections
of electrical installations (
) causes many fires and serious
accidents in Senegal".
Gabon : the setting up of CONSUELEC meets the concern for reducing the number of accidents and of victims in dwellings...reports have been made and studies carried out...that survey has immediately shown that the main cause of those disasters ans incidents was the non compliance with the standards in force... in particular in the electrical installation in dwellings.
In Korea

29,5 % of fires in dwellings have an electrical origin, and 81 % of them arise from insufficient maintenance compared with the permanent increase of the installed equipments (KESCO, October 2006)
In Argentina
34 % of the causes of the fires have an electric origin (2002, APSE)
